Brother's First Birthday Party

I am desperately trying to figure out how Brother is one already. It seems like just a few months ago that he was born, and now I look at him and see a sweet little boy, starting to talk and making his way all over the house.
Today, we celebrated Brother's first birthday. He got a beautiful blue and green shirt and vest from a friend. I decided this would be a great birthday outfit, and planned the color scheme accordingly.
Since Brother likes bananas, I found a recipe for banana cupcakes. I was a bit nervous, since I hadn't tried out the recipe before the party. Nevertheless, they seemed to have turned out well. It's hard to tell from this picture, but we had blue and green frosting.

The craft for the kids as they arrived:
Sister absolutely loves her Brother, whom in turn, adores Sister. I have never known siblings that love to be with each other as much as these two!

As the family arrived, Grant got the most fascinating gift - a balloon!
Balloons are fun to hold...
...fun to fly...
...and fun to watch!

After allowing the kids to do a craft and Sister read Brother's favorite book (Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?), it was time for cupcakes. Brother had never had cake, or sugar of any kind, before today. So, what does a baby do with his first cupcake? Well, first things first, take off the candle!

"What is this thing?"

Time to smash the cupcake. Great sensory experience!
Once the cupcake was sufficiently mutilated, Brother decided to taste it. Hmm. Not bad.

Brother at the end of the cupcake experience with frosting on his face.

After getting his hands and face cleaned, it was time for presents.

Of course, what first birthday is complete without snuggling mama?
Happy birthday to my precious, precious boy. I love you more than you will ever know.
